Midnight in Paris 2011

Centre Pompidou by Renzo Piano & Richard Rodgers

We had the most amazing two weeks traveling through Amsterdam, Brussels, Bruges and Paris. We went on numerous chocolate, waffle and macaron hunts, and ate our way through all three countries.

The best part? I went on this vacation with my boyfriend and came back with my fiance. It was one of the most romantic and delicious vacations ever!

We went to the Anne Frank House on our first day in Amsterdam. Going through the house and the secret annex was a very powerful experience.

Check out the third house from the right (below) . Some buildings in Amsterdam have foundation settlement issues. I would hate to be their neighbor.

The view from our Amsterdam hotel room.

We took an evening canal tour on our last day in Amsterdam and saw a beautiful sunset as we cruised along different canals.

Along Amsterdam Central we saw these construction barriers with different images of people kneeling/crouching, so I joined in on the fun.

A short train ride later, we arrived in Brussels, home of little Manneken Pis.

Did you know that Manneken Pis has over 80 outfits and is dressed up for different occasions?

Look, it's Kimo! ------->

We visited the MIM - Musical Instrument Museum.

We had wireless headphones that activated musical samples of the instruments on display as soon as we stepped near the audio tour mark. -->

We noticed a lot of amazing street art in Brussels, check them out:

We went on lots of waffle, frites and chocolate hunts.

Yes, some of us are more graceful than others while eating waffles, haha.

We visited a lot of different chocolate shops. LOTS.

Every time we walked by a chocolate shop I'd want to go in. I would literally press my face onto the display window drooling.

Meanwhile Sean plays it cool by hanging out outside of the shop.

I really like these "gingerbread houses" in the Market Square.

We packed a picnic and ventured out toward the edge of town looking for windmills.

We also found a rainbow mini-windmill on a balcony. So cute!

Check out the "lace" fence around the windmill.

For dinner we had:

Frites, Flemish beef stew, and steak with blue cheese sauce.

Yummy...

Chocolate boobies...

A snapshot of all our chocolate souvenirs.

The awesome gargoyles outside of Notre-Dame de Reims.

On our first day in Paris we got our Museum Pass and visited Musee de l'Orangerie, home of Monet's Water Lilies mural. We wanted to visit the flower garden in Giverny later on but ran out of time/energy.

Our Champs Elysees hotel is across the street from the Arc de Triomphe.

We had a lovely dinner on the Island...

We held hands looking up at the Eiffel Tower...

...and then we got engaged.

The next day we visited the Musee d'orsay, a beautiful Beaux-Arts railway station that was converted into a museum in 1986.

Musee Rodin is one of my favorite museum. I love The Kiss, The Thinker and Gates of Hell.

Check out the beautiful garden behind the museum. We also met some very aggressive/ hungry birds at the museum cafe.

Kilometre Zero in front of Notre Dame.

A quiet moment inside the chapel.

We had ice cream at Berthillon on the Ile Saint-Louis. The favors are pretty intense (hence the look on my face).

We strolled over to Shakespeare and Co., an independent bookstore at the Left Bank. Hemingway used to hang out here.

We grabbed a few sandwiches & drinks and had our dinner next to the Seine.

I loved catching glimpses of the Eiffel Tower throughout the day in Paris. It is especially beautiful all lit up at night.

The gardens of the Palace of Versailles stretch for miles.

Halls of Mirrors (right).

The Queen's bedchamber (below). I love the decor, especially the wallpaper.

We went to the Marche Bastille farmer's market.

This market has everything: huge fish, flowers, meat, veggies and food stands.

We went to visit Musee du Louvre on a Friday night to avoid all the school kids on field trips.

Left: Venus de Milo

Left: Yes, that is no. 5077 on the audio guide tour!

The mandatory shot with Mona Lisa.

I love that some of the paintings are taller than me.

We got a bit lost trying to navigate through all the detours/closures for maintanence....

What I looked like at the end of the day...

One Star vs. All Stars -->

Below: panoramic view from Basilique du Sacre Coeur, Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris.

Lounging around in the Luxembourg Garden.

Of course I had to track down a Pierre Herme in Paris.

They don't allow you to take pictures inside the pastry shop, but I didn't realized it and snapped the two below.

Crown of Thorns

Rose Window

Beautiful stained glass in Saint-Chapelle.

A quiet moment on a late night train.

We got advanced tickets for the Eiffel Tower and went a bit before sunset (9pm!!).

Shadow of the tower on the cityscape.

On our last day in Paris we visited the Laduree on Champs Elysees and got more macarons.

The lady dropped and broke one of my choco macaron and she gave it to me for free! I was in heaven...
